What distinguishes one carpet cleaning company from another? This checklist may help you to ask the right questions in choosing a cleaning service.
- Do they have good references?
Our company is one of the most reliable in the area. We are often referred by other professionals in the area and more than 70% of our client base is either a referral or a previous customer. This is a fact that we are extremely proud of. We will provide references upon request.
- What kind of experience do they have?
We have been in business locally since 1988 and have cared for many of the finest carpets, oriental rugs and furnishings.
- Are they well educated in their field?
Most companies do not invest in educating themselves or their employees. We regularly attend IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration) and NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association) seminars and continuing education courses. We study trade journals and books to be abreast of cleaning technology changes and updates in the industry. We have three Master Cleaning and Restoration technicians on staff. Four technicians are journeymen and one is a trainee. Beginning next year, some carpet manufacturers are going to write into their warranties that their carpets need to be professionally cleaned by an IICRC technician.
- What systems do they use?
Our company uses state of the art equipment. We clean using the hot water extraction process. No matter what other companies tell you, that is the process nine out of ten carpet manufacturers recommend to clean carpet.
Several companies (including Shaw Industries and Dupont) write it into the warranty that if the carpets have not been professionally cleaned using a hot water extraction process at least every twelve to eighteen months the warranty is void.
- Do they use top quality products?
All of our supplies are premium quality products. Everything we use is bio-degradable and hypoallergenic. If a company is offering a "free" fiber protectant -- you know it isn't a name brand product and may not deliver the same quality of protection as Dupont Teflon or 3M Scotchgard. Remember the old saying, "Nothing in this world is free".
- Do you get what you pay for?
Never choose any service based upon price alone. Cleaning is not cheap as you would like to think. When our truck is parked in front of your home, you are looking at a $55,000.00 investment in van and equipment at a minimum, plus training and insurance. Did you know that if someone you hire does not carry workman's compensation insurance, you may be held liable on your homeowner's policy if they are injured while in your employ? What if an accident occurs (thankfully those are few and far between) and the company does not carry liability insurance? Who will foot the bill? Quality service is not cheap, but cleaning does extend the life of your investment in carpet and upholstery and improves your indoor environment for better health.
- Do they guarantee their work?
Have you ever had an uneducated, uninsured, unscrupulous and disheveled cleaner in your home and when something goes wrong — they won't return your phone calls. We guarantee to return and re-clean any unsatisfactory areas if you will inform our office within 48 hours of our cleaning. We try to return within a week of the original service if we can work it out between your schedule and ours. We cannot have a 70% return or referral rate if our customers are not satisfied.
A retired carpet cleaner from our town once said he sometimes ran into price objections and people would hesitate to hire him as his fees were slightly higher than some others. A prospective client once said to him, "Gosh we can get 'Splash n Dash' for only $9.95 per room! Why is your price so high?"
He said that his standard reply was "Well, I guess they know what they are worth. Keep me in mind if you are not satisfied with their service."
